The Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill has been drawn from the ballot. I want to explain why I cannot endorse it - and why that matters coming from me.
In legal terms, isn't 'sex' typically referencing the biological classification of individuals as male or female based on physical characteristics, such as chromosomes, hormones, and genitalia.
By defining woman & man, then by extention isn't 'sex' also being defined?
Shame they have included reference to gender identification in first sentence of each definition ... agree with your 2nd point as it would seem more difficult to then remove and correct the other two Acts you have outlined.
Your objections to the bill are correct, however, we should still support it to the select committee stage, so we have the chance to raise those issues.
Based on what I presented at the NZFisrt Conference, I have sat with this for days and I can't in good conscience support it in its current form. I would welcome the opportunity to present my case during the process if we get to do that.
Supporting the bill to pass its first reading is the only way it will get to the select committee. Qualified support is a good strategy. “There are serious flaws in this bill but the issue it raises - how women and men are classified in legislation - is a very important one and deserves to be thoroughly investigated by the select committee.”
Great points Penny. Pulling the weed out at the root, not just at ground level. It will continue to grow if not properly removed.

Excellent article. Good on you for catching the error of their ways. I pray they get the point and fix it.

So how can we get the actual legislation changed that you mentioned...?
We can try to get some of the laws repealed and amended.
